A New Adventure

It’s summer!!!! As much as I love Walla Walla and Whitman’s tight knit little community, I must say, its nice to be back in a city. But not for long…On May 29th I fly out of San Francisco headed to Kakamega, Kenya. I’m going to be working for Community Action for Rural Development (CARD), a non-profit that does everything from AIDS/HIV awareness to sustainable agriculture to microfinance. I’m not quite sure what exactly I will be doing …I know I’ll be living with a family, learning Kiswahili and working 40 hours a week for CARD on a project that they need.

This will be an adventure…I’ve just been separated from a lot of the people I love at Whitman, many of whom I won’t see for another year. Now I’m going to leave behind my friends from home, my family and (gasp) most of my material possessions.This is pretty exciting…
